The top Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, Representative Adam Smith of Washington, who saw the footage last week in a classified briefing, told ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday, “It seems pretty clear they don’t want to release this video because they don’t want people to see it, because it’s very, very difficult to justify.”
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has instructed its employees to halt immigration pathways to people from 19 countries deemed high risk, including Afghanistan, Cuba, Venezuela, Haiti and Somalia. The naturalization ceremony is the final step to becoming a U.S. citizen, a process that takes years to complete.
Trump became chairman of the institution this year and is the first president to host the ceremony recognising artists for lifetime achievement.
This summer, Mr. Trump proposed the idea of the government’s taking a cut of A.I. chip sales to China. On Monday, he reiterated that, writing that “$25% will be paid to the United States of America” — a 10-percentage-point increase from what the company previously agreed to pay the U.S. government.
Doug Burgum, secretary of the interior, is offering the dubious, slightly backhanded compliment that Trump is “the only president we’ve had that would be able to step in and host a show like this” and “the most qualified TV host we’ve ever had sitting in the Oval Office.”
The president said he would defer to his defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, on whether to release a video showing a follow-up attack that killed survivors of a Sept. 2 strike on an alleged drug smuggling boat.
